The scene starts with Duncan if the execution on Cawdor has taken place. Malcolm then answers back by saying that no one has returned, however Malcolm spoke with someone who saw him die. Duncan then said how he was a respected gentleman. Macbeth, Banquo, Ross, and Angus then enter. Macbeth then addresses the king as his ‘worthiest cousin’. A trumpet sounds and King Duncan, Lennox, Malcolm, and their attendants enter. Malcolm then repeats how no one has returned but he has heard news from someone who saw Cawdor die. He explained how Cawdor died like someone who was tossed away like trash. Duncan then tells Macbeth how he has a feeling of guilt.
