Act 1 Scene 2

This scene starts with Duncan, Malcolm, Donalbain and Lennox talking to a dying soldier. Duncan asks who the man is and Malcolm answers saying that it is a wounded sergeant. The sergeant then has some dialogue, he explains that Macbeth deserves the title ‘Brave’. Duncan then comes in and says the soldier is valiant and a worthy gentleman. The scene carries on, the sergeant leaves the scene, and Ross enters. The scene continues and ends saying that ‘noble’ Macbeth won the battle. This is the first time we see Macbeth is the book.

Act 1 Scene 1

This scene is quite short and is just the witches talking to one another. They talk about how they meet up another time and end the scene with a chant. ” Fair is foul, and foul is fair. Hover through the fog and filthy air”. I think this is saying that nothing is fair but nothing is foul.

What secondary Characters do I need to know?!

Malcolm and Donaldbain so we can see their reactions to the King’s death. They are also quite important the story.

The three witches are important as they add a twist to the story and have set a sort of benchmark for the  rest of the story.

Why did the witches appear?

The witches appear to add a storyline to the book. If it wasn’t for the witches Macbeth would of have been made king which meant that there would have to be a different plot. In my opinion I think that the witches make the story interesting.

Act 2 Scene 2 Summary

In this scene starts with Lady Macbeth drugging the guards. Macbeth then enters with two bloody daggers (as he just killed the King). It carries on with Macbeth showing his guilt by saying “Macbeth shall sleep no more”. He reacts in a way that shows fear inside of him and also a very guilty conscience.

(The challenge was to explain the scene in a limited amount of sentence).

Act 1 Scene 3 Summary

The scene starts with the three witches talking to each other. They ask one of the sisters where they were. She says she is ‘killing swine’. The first witch then tells sort of story. She says that she asked a sailor’s wife for some chestnuts she was eating. However the women said no. Then all the sisters decided to take revenge by sinking the boat.  Macbeth and Banquo them enter the scene. Banquo says “not like the inhabitants o’ the earth”, I think this means that he thinks that they don’t look human. He also say that they should be women but their ‘beards’ don’t allow him to see that they are women. The witches then, in sync, hail Macbeth. The scene carries on a the witches disappear. Banquo and Macbeth about how they are confused on the disappearance of the witches. Macbeth and Duncan celebrate how Macbeth is going to be king, they say that his children will be kings.
