In this scene, Macbeth says why to try to fight and die. Macduff then tells Macbeth to face him. He calls him a hellhound. They then start to fight and Macbeth starts talking, say he is wasting his time. He thinks he cannot be killed by Macduff as no man of woman born can harm him, but Macduff was not of woman born, he was ‘untimely ripped’ which means that he was ripped out of his mother’s womb. This frightens Macbeth but he does not back down. Macbeth then says he will not be taunted so he carries on fighting. Macduff then enters with Macbeth’s head and announces that everyone is free from his tyranny.

Act 5 Scene 7 Summary
In this scene, young Siward asks Macbeth what his name was, but Macbeth did not say as he would be afraid of it. He then says his name and siward says he hate that name.
Act 5 Scene 6 Summary
In this scene, a very short one, Malcolm’s soldiers put down their wood, and draw their swords, Battle then commences.
Act 5 Scene 5 Summary
In this scene, Macbeth finds out that lady Macbeth has died and recites a soliloquy, which was studied in class. This soliloquy talks about how Macbeth would have wanted her to live for a little longer. A messenger then enters and tell Macbeth that he saw the forest moves, as the troops put tree trunks over their head, towards Dunsinane castle, but Macbeth denies it. Macbeth then threatens the messenger, and goes to attack.
Act 5 Scene 4 Summary
In this scene, Malcolm talks to siward about Macbeth plans, to protect the Dunsinane Castle. Thier plan is to get a large piece of a tree branch, to hide them and their numbers.
Act 5 Scene 3 Summary
In this scene, Macbeth talks to a doctor, saying that he does not want to hear anything about the war, that he wants ‘no reports’. He also has no fear for Malcolm, as he was a woman born, and no one of woman born can harm him. He also gets news that 10 thousand troops are approaching the castle, but he shouts at the servant.
Act 5 Scene 2 Summary
In this scene, Menteith, Angus and Lennox are talking about their plan to fend against Malcolm’s Scottish army, Near Birnam Wood. Macbeth has also locked down Dunsinane castle to make his own plans.
Act 5 Scene 1 Summary
In this scene, a doctor talks to a gentlewoman, about seeing Lady Macbeth starting to sleep walking since Macbeth left for war. Lady Macbeth then walks in, sleep walking, with a candle in her hand. The doctor asks why she has a candle in her hand, and the woman replies that it has been asked to be by Lady Macbeth’s bed at night. The doctor then says that her eyes are open but ‘their sense is shut.’ Which means that her eyes do not see anything. She then starts talking and her words are written down. She has a secret. She says ‘To bed!’ and leaves.
Act 4 Scene 3 Summary
In this scene, Malcolm talks to Macduff saying he does not trust him as he thinks he is working for Macbeth. However, Malcolm is scared that Macduff might turn his back on him. This is because Macduff does not seem as loyal. But Macduff denies this. However, Malcolm is still wary of Macduff. Malcolm also says he has ‘an impossible lust’, but Macduff argues that there are plenty of women in Scotland. Later on, Ross says that Scotland is in a bad position.
Act 4 Scene 2 Summary
In this scene, Lady Macbeth questions Ross, why Macbeth left. He says that Macbeth may have looked like a traitor as he ran away. Lady Macbeth turns to her son and tells him is father is dead and asks him how he will live. He says he will live like a bird. He also denies his father is dead. He also asked if his father was a traitor and if kept his promises. A messenger then comes in and warns lady Macbeth that she is in danger. The murderers enter and kill Macbeth’s son, for being disrespectful to them. Lady Macbeth runs away shouting murder.
