In this scene, it shows the three witches, chanting an incantation,
‘Double, double toil and trouble,
Fire burn, and cauldron bubble.’
they also add weird ingredients which they chant as the throw them into the cauldron’.
‘eye of newt and toe of frog’
When macbeth enters, he calls the witches midnight hags. Three apparitions arise and talk to Macbeth they tell his his prophecies.
- ‘Macbeth! Macbeth! Macbeth! Beware Macduff. Beware the thane of Fife.’, which means he should be wary of Macduff
- ‘nobody born from a woman will ever harm Macbeth.’
- ‘Macbeth will never be defeated until Birnam Wood marches to fight you at Dunsinane Hill.’
