Act 1 Scene 2

This scene starts with Duncan, Malcolm, Donalbain and Lennox talking to a dying soldier. Duncan asks who the man is and Malcolm answers saying that it is a wounded sergeant. The sergeant then has some dialogue, he explains that Macbeth deserves the title ‘Brave’. Duncan then comes in and says the soldier is valiant and a worthy gentleman. The scene carries on, the sergeant leaves the scene, and Ross enters. The scene continues and ends saying that ‘noble’ Macbeth won the battle. This is the first time we see Macbeth is the book.

  1. This is much more like it!

Why is it important that this is our first meeting with Macbeth? How does this shape our opinion of him to come? Why?
